| Description: | This particular SangYong Musso is known in its home country of Korea as an S.U.T., standing for Sports Utility Truck. It offers seating for four people, and occasionally five, as well as a fairly large load-bay for a rugged outdoor life-style.
The Musso Sports has a rather strange appearance, as the load bay is tacked onto the back of the standard Musso SUV design, and features a rather long overhang. However this "different" appearance is one of its attractions.
The Musso Sports, like other SsangYongs, is powered by the well-known five-cylinder 290TDi engine.
This turbo-diesel motor is built under license from Mercedes. Its a rather dated design, and power is a modest eighty-eight kiloWatts at four-thousand rpm, and two-hundred-and-fifty Newton Metres of torque at two-thousand-two-hundred-and-fifty rpm.
The Musso Sports comes with a five-speed manual gearbox, or a four-speed automatic, the gearbox fitted to our test vehicle.
Electronically-activated four-wheel-drive is fitted, the system including traction control to prevent wheel spin. This switch can be made on the move with the Musso Sports, and includes a low-ratio option for serious off-road work.
Its not exactly a firebrand on the road, being fairly low geared. But for a high-centre-of-gravity vehicle like this, power is adequate.
We found the steering a little vague on tarmac, and the attractive alloy wheels are quite heavy and lead to a jiggly ride over bumpy surfaces. Better damping control would improve things here.
The interior is pleasing, and has plenty of space for a double cab.
Luxury items include electric windows all round, a factory-fitted radio-tape, air-conditioning, a steering-wheel adjustable for height, and remote adjustment for wing mirrors.
The load bay is covered in a durable but rather slippery plastic coating, but the double-hoop rollover bar looks good. The tonneau cover is standard.
Passive safety levels see only a drivers side airbag provided, while on the active-safety front there is ABS braking.
The appearance draws on its Mercedes association with a rather C-Class style grille and light treatment, and the rear taillights are attractive too.
